The Times Of Israel: “Fatah and Hamas have made significant progress in reconciliation talks held in Gaza and are now on the verge of implementing previously signed agreements, Palestinian media reported on Tuesday.
The two rival movements have been at loggerheads since Hamas’s violent takeover of the Gaza Strip in June 2007, a year after winning a landslide victory in national elections. A series of signed reconciliation agreements have not been implemented amid ongoing persecution of opposition members both by Hamas in Gaza and by Fatah in the West Bank.”
Opinion: Ok, I admit it, I’m stumped. Let me explain.
Fatah is closely identified with the leadership of its founder, Yasser Arafat, until his death in 2004. Since Arafat’s departure, factionalism within the ideologically diverse movement has become apparent in several militant groups.
The Palestinian Authority (PA) headed by its illegitimate president, Mahmoud Abbas, was formed during the 1993 Oslo Accords and was to be in charge of the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) and Gaza.
Hamas is a Muslim Brotherhood military wing. The terror organization’s only purpose for forming is the destruction of Israel. That fact is clearly stated in its charter.
The PA and Fatah have been at odds with Hamas since 2006 when the terror group was voted to govern Gaza. If a peace treaty were signed without all three groups it would have little effect.
Psalm 83 alliance:
The Palestinians of the West Bank (PA and Fatah ) are not specifically mentioned in Psalm 83. How is it possible to have an Israeli/Palestinian war without the PA and Fatah? That is a conundrum.
Two possible answers.
Since the PA and Fatah Palestinians are from the same ancestry (Esau) as Jordan’s Palestinians from Edom, Moab and Ammon, Psalm 83:6-7 sees them as one and the same,
The Palestinians of the West Bank sit out Psalm 83 in similar fashion to the Hamas led 2012 Thanksgiving rocket attacks, when for the first time since the 1991 Gulf war, air raid sirens were heard in Tel Aviv and near Jerusalem.
It’s a conundrum.
