“The Syrian army and its allies will work to thwart the new Israeli plot on the occupied Golan border and will continue to destroy the enemy’s collaborators,” the Syrian military source speaking on condition of anonymity told Lebanese news site el-Nashra.
The Syrian source further claimed that the early morning strike near Damascus had been launched from Israel’s Golan Heights.
Opinion: If you have been coming to this site for any length of time and have read chapter 6 of Bible Prophecy 101 (here) you will know Isaiah 17:1 by heart:
“Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, And it will be a ruinous heap.”
You will also know that Damascus is the oldest inhabited city in the world and it had been only partially destroyed in 732 BC by the Assyrian empire.
You may not know, however, that Isaiah 17:7 records “In that day a man will look to his Maker, And his eyes will have respect for the Holy One of Israel”, and since the Assyrians worshiped pagan gods: Ashur (war), Ishtar (wife of Ashur), Nargal (war and plague), Aruru (midwife of the gods) Gesthtu-e (whose blood and intelligence was used by Mami (another god) to create man), there is obviously no record that the Assyrians turned to the God of Israel.
That event is still future, and indicates that it will be Israel who will cause the destruction of Damascus, since no other Middle East people will praise the God of Israel.
But there is more: Isaiah 17:14 records that Damascus will be destroyed in 1 night, and other than Russia, Israel is the only nation in the Middle East with the (unspoken) nuclear fire power to fulfill the prophecy.
The only other reference to Israel as a nation returning to God prior to the tribulation, is found in Ezekiel 39:28, indicating that both events are very close together.
