“I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind…” Romans 7:21-23.
The OT Law came from God and is spiritual. The NT law of faith (Rom. 3:27 saving belief in Christ by grace) and love encompasses the 10 Commandments, since we are to love and honor God above everything, and love our “neighbor” (other people) as ourselves.
As a believer, I agree with God that the law is good and I desire to conform to the new spiritual, Christlike nature in me. Yet, the old carnal sinful nature is still active in my flesh, and creates tension and struggle as I seek to please God. This sanctification will not be completed until I am rid of my earthly body, either by death or in the Rapture, for the flesh is not redeemed yet, it is still subject to sin. That’s how Paul was able to say “But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.”( v.17) However, the evidence of being a new creation with the help of the Holy Spirit is growing closer to the image of Christ and decreasingly of the flesh.
“Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God – through Jesus Christ our LORD!” v.24-25
