YNet News:US President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that the United States recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and will move its embassy there, breaking with longtime US policy and potentially threatening regional stability.
“Today we finally acknowledge the obvious, that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital. This is nothing more or less than recognition of reality. It’s also the right thing to do. Something that has to be done,” Trump said during a speech at the White House.
Nevertheless, Trump emphasized that “This decision is not intended in any way to reflect a departure from our commitment to lasting peace. We’re not taking a position on any final status issues, including Israeli sovereignty on Jerusalem. Those questions are up to the parties involved. We remain committed to facilitate peace agreement acceptable to both sides.”
Opinion: My first thoughts were how blessed we are to understand the Biblical importance of the Jewish people to the city of David, how blessed we are to have witnessed a US President blessing Israel in accordance with Genesis 12:3, and how important a time we are living in.
The coming days are likely to be dangerous as headlines from the Middle East are wasting no time denouncing the move.
But just for today, I want to drink it all in.
