JPost: The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the umbrella organization that is internationally-recognized as the representative of the Palestinian people, will push to withdraw formal recognition of Israel and end Washington’s longstanding role as mediator of the peace process.
Instead, the PLO will pursue an “international formula” for achieving statehood. The developments were outlined in a report that aims to redefine not only the parameters for future relations with Israel and the Unites States, but also change the status of the Palestinian Authority from a “transitional authority” to a “state under occupation.”
The details are intended to be finalized in a follow-up meeting of the PLO mid-month. more …
Opinion: You have to wonder, how does one cut ties with someone that they claim does not exist?
But that is the the Middle East and the world gleefully plays along.
The Palestinian Authority had major success for 8 years under their patron, Barack Obama. From an apology speech in Cairo to the legitimization of the Muslim Brotherhood to the disparagement of Israel’s Prime Minister to Ramadan dinners, Mahmoud Abbas and his henchmen were welcome guests in the White House.
And who can forget December 23, 2016, when President Obama instructed Samantha Power to abstain, as 14 members of the UN Security Council passed Resolution 2334:
- That Israel′s settlement activity constitutes a “flagrant violation” of international law and has “no legal validity”
- That Israel stop such activity and fulfill its obligations as an occupying power under the Fourth Geneva Convention
Or the December 28, 2016, 70-minute speech by John Kerry declaring Israeli settlements as the main obstruction to peace stating that Israel cannot be both a “Democratic state and a Jewish state.”
Or the $221 million that Barack tried to send the PA on his way out of office … but I digress.
The PA now has the ability to further unite the Arab world, bringing Sunni and Shia together, with the full cooperation of the UN which on December 18, 2017, voted to make Trump’s Jerusalem declaration “null and void“, but failed.
A united Arab world could cause a lot of trouble on the upcoming May 14 celebration of Israel’s rebirth which they call al nakba, the catastrophe.
