Washington Times: French President Emmanuel Macron is warning against the dangers of nationalism in a speech aimed directly at the rising tide of populism in the United States and Europe.
With U.S. President Donald Trump and other world leaders looking on during an Armistice Day centennial observance in Paris on Sunday, Macron said the “ancient demons” that caused World War I and millions of deaths are growing stronger.
“Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism. Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism,” the French leader said. more …
Opinion: One of my oldest friends is a non-practicing Jew. In a conversation over the synagogue massacre, he expressed a deep and very long held fear that nationalism taken to the extreme can lead to another fascist Nazi regime. My friend’s fear is based on recent history and our current president. He also does not view the world through a Biblical lens.
A historic view of dangerous regimes indicates that globalism can be just as destructive and wicked as out of control nationalism.
The great prophet Daniel prophesied globalist empires that became wicked and collapsed. It is Daniel’s 4th empire, Rome, that began to fade out in the 4th-5th century AD that Daniel indicates is revived in the last days.
Revived Rome was first introduced in Dan. 2:40. In Daniel 7:7, the prophet identifies the final Gentile world kingdom as (unstable) revived Rome.
- Head of gold: Babylon
- Chest and arms: Medo-Persia
- Belly and thighs: Greece (Alexander)
- Legs of iron: Rome/Constantinople
- Feet and toes of iron and clay: Revived Rome
Daniel prophesied that this Gentile kingdom will trample the earth and its leader will speak pompous words and blaspheme God.
If we are where the current European Union appears to indicate we are, that empire is at the door.
Global government is being held back by one Person:
“For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way” 2 Thess. 2:7.
Global government is being held back because He, the Holy Spirit and the church He indwells, is still on earth. When He and the church are taken up (1 Thess. 4:16-18) at the last trumpet of the Church Age (1 Cor. 15:51-52), there will be only one Person powerful enough to stop a coming global leader:
“And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming” (1 Thess. 2:8).
