JPost: “With the fate of the Israeli army and the country’s legitimacy at stake in the ongoing war crimes debate, The Jerusalem Post on Monday became the first Israeli outlet to sit down for an in-person exclusive interview with International Criminal Court Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda in her office on the court’s premises in The Hague in the Netherlands.
Since she controls Israel’s fate about whether the IDF’s conduct during the 2014 Gaza War and the settlement enterprise are investigated as war crimes or not, Ms. Bensouda may be the most important global figure in Israel’s future, having an even greater concrete impact than UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.”
Opinion: First things first: only the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob controls Israel’s fate. Mrs. Fatou Bensouda does not even come close.
Second: The International Criminal Court in The Hague was founded in 2002 and counts 123 member states. Israel and the US are not among them. The court’s annual funding, as noted, is largely covered by its European members, nations that are largely critical of Israel.
The ICC found no reason to investigate Turkey’s aggression in the 2010 Mavi Marmara incident or the 450,000 who have died in the Syrian civil war, or the more than who 30,000 citizens that have been killed by militants in Afghanistan, Libya, or Ukraine.
And the ICC has punted on the fate of thousands of Yazidi Christians slaughtered at the hands of ISIS citing a technicality over Iraq because its government is not a signatory of the treaty that established tribunal, despite the fact that the ICC could investigate any individuals of one of its 123 member countries found in suspicion of crimes.
But the judges of the court in The Hague – which was set up to investigate mass atrocities, are apparently not interested in the fact that millions of people have been killed since its founding in 2002.
Because Israel is the court’s main target.
