‘EU doesn’t recognize Israeli occupation of the Golan’

YNet News: “The European Union’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini reiterated on Tuesday that the EU does not recognize Israel’s claim to the Golan Heights, echoing a similar statement from the US the day before.

“The EU recognizes Israel within its pre-1967 boundaries, regardless of the (Israeli) government’s claims on other areas, until a final settlement is reached,” Mogherini said before a meeting in Brussels of international donors in support of the Palestinian economy.

“This is a shared position reaffirmed by the European Union and its member states,” she added.

Opinion: Isn’t it interesting that neither Federica Mogherini, nor Barack Obama, nor Ban Ki Moon have any problem recognizing Mahmoud Abbas as the president of the Palestinian Authority despite the fact that his term ended in 2009?

And isn’t it equally interesting that the US and EU are declaring Golan part of Syria the same week as the vote to force a Palestinian state?

The nations are pretending to be in an uproar over Prime Minister Netanyahu’s statement that Golan “will forever remain in Israel’s hands”, even though his statement is nothing new.

If you want to see a secular progressive liberal go apoplectic, tell them that the Golan, along with the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza and the Sinai were all part of the unconditional covenant made between God and Abraham, Genesis 17:7-8).

If that doesn’t do it, tell them that all that land including the Golan was part of the 1917 Balfour Declaration and if you need more, say that Israel’s preempted victory in the 1967 war was both legal and God-ordained.

The UN Security Council vote on Palestinian Statehood  is expected Friday – just hours before the beginning of Passover.
