The New American: “George Orwell may have imagined a world of total surveillance, but even his fertile imagination and acute understanding of totalitarianism did not foresee a world where the citizens demand, purchase, install, and configure devices to conduct the bulk of the surveillance on themselves and others.

He also did not foresee the incestuous — if sometimes less-than-harmonious — relationship between government and business that would bring about the surveillance state.

In the digital age, we have a state of total (or near total) surveillance that makes1984 look like child’s play.

Opinion: Many times artistic expressions from the secular world can bridge a discussion into the prophetic signs of the coming end to this age.

The novel 1984 is one example of a piece of art that paints a picture of what the coming Tribulation may loosely resemble by creating a dystopian world built and tightly held together by oppressive surveillance.

What the author created was once thought of as an inconceivably intrusive surveillance state yet now according to some knowledgable security analysts is “unimaginative and quaint” in scope.  The technology available and in use now is simply mind-blowing:

The world learned of the surveillance capability from the video below in March of 2012.  Now companies like IDI can “create a portrait of your life and predict your behavior” without having to access your internet connected hardware.  The road to Revelation 13:16-17 is now coming into focus.  It’s almost here.

Sounds pretty frightening, doesn’t it?  It shouldn’t.  Go pick up your Bibles and turn to 2 Thessalonians Chapter 2.  From verses 3-8 we learn the anti-christ will be revealed only after the Holy Spirit is removed from the earth.  And if you are saved through your belief in Jesus, then you know the Holy Spirit dwells within you (John 3:5-6, Ephesians 1:13).

Therefore rejoice and let the daily news provide you with evidence of God’s sovereignty while sharing what’s going on in the world as a witnessing opportunity.

Now join me shouting, Maranatha!
