Arutz Sheva: “Despite Barack Obama’s speech last week at the UN being analyzed endlessly, there has been no meaningful reference to the way in which the president referred to Judea and Samaria.
The president remarked parenthetically that Judea and Samaria are “Palestinian lands”. Only the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) responded and protested the inaccuracy in Obama’s words.
“The territory of the West Bank was earmarked for Jewish settlement in 1920 at the San Remo Conference. This decision, enshrined in the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine entrusted to Britain that shortly followed, has never been superseded by an internationally binding agreement. To the contrary, it was reaffirmed by Article 80 of the UN Charter.”
Opinion: The Balfour Declaration of 1917 committed Britain to the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people. In the beginning of World War I, the Ottoman Empire took the side of Germany and when the war ended in 1919, the Arab Empire collapsed.
In 1921 Britain made the decision that Palestine was to be included in the formal Palestine Mandate. As a gesture to Britain’s wartime promises with the Arabs, Churchill decided to exempt the territory of Transjordan from the provisions of mandate related to the Jewish national home.
As a consequence, Israel’s land in the original mandate was reduced by 80% giving the Arabs a state side by side with the Jewish state. The two-state solution was born. The Arabs of Jordan received 34,445 square miles of land while Israel was granted 8,000 square miles of which 75% was desert.
But that was not enough, the Arabs wanted another state, but this time, inside Israel.
What Mr. Obama is suggesting is a three state solution, by splitting the existing tiny nation of Israel while at the same time giving Arabs the holiest site in Judaism – the Temple Mount.
The US president is not a stupid man. The UN is not ignorant of these facts and neither are the leaders the EU. So what we are witnessing are world leaders fanning the seeds of hatred that were planted 4000 years ago (Gen. 16:12, 27:41).
