Breaking with centuries of Christian tradition, Pope Francis told a crowd of 33,000 Catholics in Rome that “a personal, direct, immediate relationship with Jesus Christ” must be avoided at all costs, raising fears he is an illegitimate pope with a sinister agenda. more …
Opinion: The comments made this past week by Francis echo a speech he made in a June 2014 meeting (here).
The following is an excerpt from that speech:
St. Peter’s Square
Wednesday, 25 June 2014
- 1. We are not isolated and we are not Christians on an individual basis, each one on his or her own, no, our Christian identity is to belong! We are Christians because we belong to the Church.
- 2. In this sense, one’s thought goes in the first place, with gratitude, to those who went before us and who welcomed us into the Church. No one becomes Christian on his or her own! Is that clear? No one becomes Christian by him- or herself.
- 3. The Christian belongs to a people called the Church and this Church is what makes him or her Christian, on the day of Baptism, and then in the course of catechesis, and so on. But no one, no one becomes Christian on his or her own.
Many of you have family in the Catholic church as Editor and I do. Most will probably agree with the pope. Keep in mind that it is the job of the Holy Spirit to save. We were saved by grace (Ephesians 2:9-9) not by any work of our own. Offer the Gospel message of grace with love.
In our post (here) yesterday “Pope: World Gov’t Must Rule U.S. For Their Own Good” I quoted Revelation 13:11:
“Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence …”
I quipped that Francis could be auditioning for the role of the False Prophet. But that was yesterday. Now Francis is taking his anti-Christ message to a biblically bankrupt world.
Jesus’ message to His disciples in the upper room:
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:15-17
And that’s personal.
