The earthquake comes just days after a 7.1-magnitude quake hit Mexico City, destroying buildings, and killing nearly 300 people. Response operations related to that event were still ongoing at the time of the new trembler.
Opinion: From NY Daily News:
“The mighty quake was centered just 11 miles south of Matias Romer in the Oaxaca state, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was injured or killed because of the earthquake, which struck just before 8 a.m. local time.
Reports indicate tremors were felt hundreds of miles north in Mexico City, where a 7.1-magnitude earthquake Tuesday killed 295 people. Buildings reportedly swayed in the capital city Saturday morning.”
