JPost: Following the removal from power of Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi by General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in July 2013, Sinai became a conflict zone between the Egyptian forces loyal to the Sisi-led government and Islamic groups that reject the secular army elite that is now controlling the country.
Previously a picturesque desert peninsula that used to attract tourists from Israel and the world, the region is now increasingly synonymous with bloodshed and terror.
The Islamic group Ansar Bait al-Maqdis [Supporters of the Holy House], that claimed to place Jerusalem as its focus, carried out a large attack in October 24, 2014 in the Bedouin town of Sheikh Zuweid. 33 members of the Egyptian security forces were killed and a three-month long state of emergency ensued. more …
Opinion: Ansar Bait al-Maqdis has operated in the Sinai since 2011. In 2014 the group renamed itself ISIL-Sinai Province but Biblical history records that the beginning of terrorism in the desert predated the extremist terror group by about 3500 years.
It was an illegitimate grandson of Esau named Amalek who committed the first terror attack in the Sinai:
Excerpt: Antichrist The Search for Amalek: After the Red Sea crossing and the drowning of the Egyptian army, the next attack on the Israelites came from a tribe called the Amalekites. Their ancestral leader was an illegitimate grandson of Esau named Amalek, who inherited his grandfather’s intense hatred (Gen. 27:41) for his brother Jacob. While the Egyptians failed to harm the Israelites, the Amalekites succeeded in doing so.
This enemy of Israel bore the name Amalek (Hebrew ‘am, people or nation; and laqaq, to lap or lick) to denote the rapidity with which he moved against Israel, for like a swarm of locusts, he flew upon them; the name furthermore designated the purpose of this enemy,
who came to lick the blood of Israel.
That ISIS is regrouping in the same area of Amalek’s terror attacks and war with Joshua (Exodus 17:8-13), is bone-chilling fulfillment of God’s promise to have war with Amalek in every generation (Exodus 17:16).
