Neon Nettle: As liberals kick and scream about the Trump administration’s family separation policy, Pope Francis has quietly ordered a delegation of U.S. Catholic bishops led by Cardinal Daniel DiNardo to travel to the U.S.-Mexico border in order to ‘Stop Trump’.
‘The delegation will celebrate a Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle on Sunday according to reports. The Rio Grande Valley has long been a popular pilgrimage site for Latino Catholics, who will also visit a detention center in Brownsville, Texas.’
Donald Trump enacted a “zero tolerance” deterrence policy aimed at reducing the number of illegal immigrants seeking to come to the United States. more …
Opinion: Last week I traveled to the Northeast for a particularly sad family funeral. My cousin’s son (46 yrs old), father to three children, succumbed to cancer. I have no idea of his spiritual condition at the time of death. The eulogy given after a Catholic Mass made no mention of his love of the Lord.
Pope Francis’ preoccupation with US immigration law, US gun control, and climate change is a sad testimony to what should be his single most important mission: to see to it that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is firmly implanted in the hearts and minds of those for whom he is responsible to protect from the evil one.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” Ephesians 2:8-9.
The Catholic pontiff should be aware that the laws of a sovereign nation are to be respected, as if coming from the Lord Himself:
“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves” Romans 13:1-2.
The irony is that according to Catholic doctrine it is the Pope and Catholic bishops, (Magisterium) who have the authority to determine the correct and true teachings of the faith, which are shown in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Sadly, Pope Francis is far more concerned with a social gospel than with the Gospel of salvation, of which Jesus warned 2000 years ago:
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness” Matthew 23:27-28.
