JPost: Blasts heard at Mezzeh airbase near Damascus were caused by missile strikes targeting the base and by Syrian air defense systems responding, an official in the regional alliance supporting Damascus said on Sunday.

Opinion: Isaiah’s 2700 year old prophecy about the complete destruction of Damascus, the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world (population approx.1.7 million), is in view:

v.1: “A message concerning Damascus. Observe! Damascus is about to be undone as a city.”

v.4: “In that day it shall come to pass that the glory of Jacob will wane , And the fatness of his flesh grow lean (Israeli casualties).”

v.14: “At evening tide, lo, terror! Before morning they are gone. Such is the fate of those who pillage us and the lot of those who plunder us.”

Although Damascus was conquered many times in history, and the city was partially destroyed in 732 BC when the Assyrians defeated the Armenians, the city was never totally destroyed.

That Syria is the state sponsor of the Iranian terror group, Hezbollah, who has been causing havoc firing rockets into the Golan, heightens the prophecy.

Possible sequence of events (BP 101 chapter 10):

Damascus is destroyed in one night (Isa. 17:1, 14)

A coalition of 7 Arab nations marches on Israel (Ps. 83:1-8)

Israel is victorious (Psalm 83:9-12), the war ends, and Israel becomes an exceedingly great army (Ezek. 37:10)

Israel dwells securely (false peace); the wall of separation comes down (Ezek. 38:11)

Gog Magog alliance: Russia and Iran/Turkey/North Africa launch a surprise attack to take plunder (Ezek. 38:1-6, 12)

God intervenes (Ezek. 38:18-23) no nation comes to Israel’s defense – God turns the nations against each other in confusion

Jews recognize God’s hand in victory “from that day forward”, return to covenant relationship and demand a temple (Ezek. 39:22)

Rapture of the Church and Bema Seat Judgment (1 Thess. 4:15-18; 2 Cor. 5:10)
