Zero Hedge: This year, the world commemorates the anniversaries of two key events in the development of the global monetary system. The first is the creation of the International Monetary Fund at the Bretton Woods conference 75 years ago. The second is the advent, 50 years ago, of the Special Drawing Right (SDR), the IMF’s global reserve asset.
When it introduced the SDR, the Fund hoped to make it “the principal reserve asset in the international monetary system.” This remains an unfulfilled ambition; indeed, the SDR is one of the most underused instruments of international cooperation. Nonetheless, better late than never: turning the SDR into a true global currency would yield several benefits for the world’s economy and monetary system.
The idea of a global currency is not new. Prior to the Bretton Woods negotiations, John Maynard Keynes suggested the “bancor” as the unit of account of his proposed International Clearing Union. more …
Opinion: The mark of the beast, 666, and the ability to buy and sell (Revelation 13:16-17), are perhaps some of the most well known prophecies. Most people, including many Bible believing Christians, think these apocalyptic prophecies are for a far future time, say every generation thought they were the last, and then they move on to another subject.
What is so interesting about this prophecy, however is that a global currency with strict governmental controls could not have occurred in any generation before the fig tree generation:
Matthew 24:32: “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.”
The fig tree put forth leaves in 1882 when the Jews started to make their way back to the land, and Eliezer Ben Yehuda began to restore the Hebrew language, fulfilling Zephaniah 3:9.
Matthew 24:33 “So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.”
Jesus’ Olivet Discourse was to a Jewish audience. Before the prophecies of Matthew 24 occur, Jesus will remove His church (Revelation 3:10) then turn His attention to saving His chosen people (Jeremiah 30:7; Zechariah 12:1:).
This generation, therefore, is the generation which would witness the blooming of the fig tree which happened on May 14, 1948 with Israel’s rebirth. The boomer generation grew up with the building blocks to global government and a single currency:
- Federal Reserve system 1913
- Deficit spending begins 1940’s-50’s
- International Monetary Fund (IMF) created 1945
- Special drawing Rights (SDRs) created 1969 (represent a claim to currency held by IMF member countries for which they may be exchanged)
- US leaves the gold standard 1971
- Quantitative Easing 2008
- Bitcoin: 1st digital currency 2009
I have speculated many times that Bitcoin and related cryptocurrencies will one day give way to 3-4 central bank-issued digital currencies. From there it will be an easy jump to just one, after a cataclysmic event that changes everything:
