Church Militant:  The upcoming Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for the Pan-Amazon Region, scheduled Oct. 6–17, is drawing intense fire from conservative clergy after the Vatican released on June 17 the Instrumentum Laboris (working document) for the gathering.

The synod “is a whole revamping of the Church from an ‘Amazonian’ point of view, which is nothing else than the culmination of liberation theology.

Among the most vocal critics is Cdl. Walter Brandmüller, one of the two remaining dubia cardinals. In a scathing essay, Brandmüller labeled the document heretical and an apostasy and further asserted it replaces true Catholic faith with the “noble savage” pantheism espoused by the 1800s Romantic-era philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

Another ardent critic is Julio Loredo, president of the Italian branch of Tradition, Family and Property and author of a book highly critical of liberation theology. The concept of liberation theology attempts to reconcile the economic and social views of Karl Marx with Catholicism. more …

Opinion: Let’s get into the way back machine to September 13, 2013 when Pope Francis wrote this in an outreach to Atheists :

“You don’t have to believe in God to go to heaven”

So began a series of platitudes so outrageous that an old Catholic joke took on new meaning: Is the pope Catholic?

Francis has opened the floodgates of ecumenism, a Jesuit doctrine founded by Ignatius Loyola in 1534 to bring all religions under the wing of the Roman pontiff. No one, it seems, realized how far Francis was/is willing to go until now.

Francis’ Muslim outreach stunned the world when he called Mahmoud Abbas an angel of peace and opened the first Palestinian Embassy on European soil in 2015.

Since then Francis has embraced one Muslim leader after another repeating over and over that Islam is a religion of peace.

Pope Francis and King Mohammed VI of Morocco pleaded for international recognition of “the unique and sacred character of Jerusalem.”

In a joint declaration signed March 30 at the royal palace in Rabat, the pope and king said they were “deeply concerned” for the city’s spiritual significance and its special vocation as a city of peace, referring to the city as both Jerusalem and “Al-Quds Acharif,” its Arab name.

Excerpts: Synod for the Amazon: ‘Instrumentum Laboris’ is released in the Vatican:

  • Training centers” in the Amazon for for teaching of pan-Amazonian indigenous theology
  • Integration of indigenous theology and ecotheology  (interrelationships of religion and nature) to prepare for open dialogue where evangelization takes place.
  • To deepen existing Amazonian Indian theology, which will allow a better and greater understanding of indigenous spirituality
  • The document exalts the Amazonians’ desire to “live in harmony with nature, in dialogue with spirits.”

“Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.” 1 John 2:18
