PNW: Mahmoud Abbas:
- “This land belongs to the Canaanites who were here 5,000 years ago.”
- “Every house you have built on our land – there is no escaping that they will disappear and will be in the garbage dump of history.”
Opinion: Finally, Abbas admits that the Arabs are from an enemy blood line, but according to evidence from Scripture he has the wrong “ite”.
Let’s start with 2 definitions:
Canaanites: Wicked and idolatrous descendants of Canaan, grandson of Noah, son of Ham. The ‘land of Canaan’ occupied the area that is now Lebanon and Israel, and parts of Jordan and Syria (Gen. 10:15-20). Canaanites refers to all the inhabitants of the land, encompassing many “ites”.
Edomites: Descendants of Esau’s marriage to Hittite wives/concubine. It was Timna, Esau’s concubine, who gave birth to Amalek.
Abbas is partially correct, the Arab people, a mixture of Jewish and Gentile blood have been there for approx. 3500 years. Scripture identifies his descendants as Edomites descended from Biblical Esau who disdained his birthright to the promised land, and sold it for a bowl of red porridge (Genesis 25:29-34).
Esau, who is Edom/Edomites (Genesis 36:1), and his grandson Amalek/Amalekites are found in Scripture from Genesis to the second coming of Messiah.
